I'm Hsiyun, a designer based in Toronto, Canada.

A product designer, photographer, graphic designer who observes, thinks, empathizes, iterates and builds.

About me

When I first came to Canada at 16, I found out that geese here cross the road boldly and fiercely, without fear from humans. Since then, my dream has been to become a Canadian goose in my next life.

Unfortunately, I ended up becoming a pretty good product designer instead. Interestingly, I began my journey majoring in East Asian Studies (which was a little boring) and psychology at the University of Toronto. One thing led to another, I went to Milan to study fashion design where I discovered my interest in design.

I have always felt that all design is the same—from clothing to architecture to UI and UX design—the ultimate goal of design is to improve the lives of the people using the product.

In addition to design, I also love photography, baking, and snowboarding. If you like these things too, then we have something in common!

Oh, right! And I also used to design for Beijing Vogue!

UI&Web Designer

• Worked closely with UX designers to ideate on the UI of official websites.
• Developed conceptual diagrams, low-fi wireframes, mockups, KPI (clicks), and prototypes.
• Assisted UX designers with usability tests.
• Worked with designers on iterations through understanding user needs.
• Participated and launched an English vocabulary building app, to help students memorize new words.
• Worked with UX designers and engineers to hand off the project, taking the app to launch.

Conde Nast Vogue Beijing

• Designed and revised magazine layouts.
• Photoshoped images for Vogue’s official account on WeChat.
• Gathered and visualized user comment data using tool such as Google Charts.
• Created and developed deliverables, such as internal graphics, illustrations, iconography, and motion graphics.
• Maintained the UI and component library for Vogue’s mini-program on WeChat, updating content and repairing bugs.
